Crown islands
The Crown lands

Made up of the surrounding territories of King's Landing is administered by the capital largely independent and the other routes. Further in that vein is the island of Dragonstone the traditional home of House Targaryen taken over by house Baratheon after the rebellion. It too is governed independently of the Seven Kingdoms. But is every bit a part of the kingdom as a whole. After the fall of King Haran of Harrenhal his lands were broken into the mainland territories became the Riverlands

The Riverlands

The Riverland Ruled by house Tully of River run, who swore loyalty to the Targaryen King. Though they were loyal to House Targaryen for many years they would ultimately join Robert Baratheon in rebellion against the crown.

This Ruled over by house Aran of the Eyrie were spared from much of the devastation of the Targaryen conquests. This was because their leader Shara Arryn bent the knee without a fight and swore loyalty to the Targaryen invaders. The future King Robert would grow up in the Vale fostered under the care of Lord Jon Arryn who would be among the first to join Robert in rebellion.

The iron islands
The iron islands

The hard seafaring people of the Iron Islands were once ruled alongside the Riverlands under King harren the black. But after his fall they elected house Greyjoy to lead them through Targaryen rule.
The iron Islanders are known to be fiercely independent and resentful at their subjugation. Of all the kingdoms they are arguably the most discontent to be ruled and have made numerous attempts to regain their sovereignty.

The North

The North
Known to be the oldest of the seven kingdoms the North has been ruled for thousands of years by House Stark of Winterfell.  The winter kingdoms, but they too would bend the knee to the Targaryen, until Robert's rebellion when they would join their traditional allies in house Baratheon and dethrone a Mad King.

Beyond the wall: Though this is the last of the territories of the Seven Kingdoms the continent continues. The northern border is marked by a massive wall 300 miles wide, dividing the land in order to protect it from the monstrous creatures beyond. Giants it is said, do well beyond the wall and creatures more horrible still there are stories of the dead returning to life White Walkers and ancient magic to protect the Seven Kingdoms. The Nights Watch was created and assigned the duty of guarding the wall in order to protect the realm from whatever may come.
